A visit in the 10th Arrondissement

Paris Attitude
| | Read : 3 min

The 10th arrondissement is lucky to have such a strategic location in Paris: between the Grands Boulevards and Place de la République, not far from the Bastille and Belleville districts. This rather central arrondissement provides convenient access to many of the major places in the capital in just a short metro ride.

What to do in the 10th arrondissement ?

There are not a lot of monuments to visit in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. It is rather a place where people like go out, take walks, etc. However, you will notice two small triumphal arches, which are the remains of the former gates of Paris: Porte Saint-Denis and Porte Saint-Martin (near the 3rd arrondissement).
If you are lucky enough to have nice weather, a cruise along Saint Martin Canal is a must! It’s always great to find and take a breath of fresh air in the city. At night, groups of friends meet here for a “potluck” aperitif between rounds of pétanque. You will especially enjoy the beautiful view of sunset from the Quai de Valmy or Quai de Jemmapes.

Dying to shop in trendy Parisian boutiques? Rue de Marseille is the perfect place to go in the 10th arrondissement. With all of the major brand name outlets, you are sure to find what you are looking for. Gérard Darel, Jonak, Sandro, Zadig & Voltaire and so much more! They are all here and with 50 to 70% off last year’s collection. Have fun and treat yourself without emptying your wallet. You may even be lucky enough to find a few items from this year’s new collection. On Rue de Marseille, sales take place all year around.
If you are looking for more original items, Passage Brady is the ideal place to go. Located in the working-class district of Strasbourg Saint-Denis near the Grands Boulevards, Passage Brady is now a symbol of the multicultural side of Paris. Almost all of the restaurants and general stores located in this small covered passage are run by people from the Indian subcontinent. These stores are very interesting because you can find a wide range of popular and rare spices, incense and Indian-style clothing at great prices.

The Comptoir Général, one of the quirkiest restaurants/bars in Paris that will make you get away from it all. A safe bet in the capital, this place is very unique. The decor is a joyful mix of modern and colonial styles with an eco-friendly, yet sensible touch. Located just two steps away from the Place de la République, this restaurant/bar/art gallery is a victim of its own success and often forced to ask customers to stand in line. That being said, it’s not surprising that all of the dishes, cocktails and desserts are incredibly delicious and served by a super friendly staff!

Chez Prune, the part of town where the neighborhood’s bobos love to go. Located along the Quai de Valmy, this slightly grunge-style café is always packed, whether it is for lunch, a drink or a night out. Between plates of cheese, deli meats and great moods, you can also come enjoy the lovely terrace, but you have to get here early! A trendy and relaxing bohemian atmosphere.
